Bukit Panjang was originally the name of a hill. In Malay, bukit means hill and panjang means long. Bukit Panjang thus is an extraordinary landscape in feng shui.
A long hill is like a screen. The highest part of the hill is at Bukit Timah Road 16th kilometre. The low undulating hill depicts a flying flag without a flagpole. This is regarded as the general's flag or the general's desk, a rare occurrence in feng shui.
The hill is divided into two parts. The foreground represents the hill desk where the general does his work and the background the general's flag.
The Tunnelling Centipede
Bukit Timah 16th kilometre (commonly known as Bukit Panjang lOth milestone) was once a village. In spite of the various names available in feng shui, my ancestors referred to it as the tunnelling centipede.
When Bukit Panjang New Town was created, the centipede left, leaving behind a pool from which it used to draw water. If events progress according to the present housing development programme, Bukit Panjang will recover its original characteristics and change back into a small long hill. At the same time, the shape of the centipede will reappear.
The hill close to Bukit Panjang New Town still represents the general's desk with the blocks of flats and other tall buildings as the fort. Strangely, all the flats face directions related to the earth element, such as southeast, northeast, northwest and southwest. Most of the residents will be loyal, honest and down-to-earth. But it will be difficult for those who wish to gain wealth through improper means.
This district's climate is also beneficial to health. With a spectacular scenery of clear hills and pristine streams, a downpour here is like a shower from the heavens, capable of lifting spirits and stimulating the intellect.
This is definitely a good place for nurturing the younger generation as the general is skillful in both the literary and martial art. Residents will also benefit from the general's sacred qi. However, one should be cautious that this land be overwhelmed by the earth element. Under its influence, people can be stubborn , and possess bad temperaments. They will also be prone to gastric and intestinal ailments, with women susceptible to cervical illnesses. Therefore be very careful.
武吉班让-将军坐案

武吉班让山，山长如屏风，最高处在武吉知马路十六公里处。山并不高，却如旗飘，旗却无杆，在风水学上称“将军旗”，也有人称为“将军案”（案即是桌子），在风水学中并不多见。从形势上看。将军案分两层，前为“案山”是将军办公的地方，后为将军的旗号。
遁地蜈蚣
从前这里是乡村，风水学上名称甚多，先祖则指之为“遁地蜈蚣”。如今武吉班让新镇已兴建起来，葫芦形状渐变，蜈蚣也已遁地而去，只留下当年蜈蚣汲水的水池。如果按目前的建屋趋势，武吉班让将会名副其实地变成一条小小的长山，蜈蚣之形到时就会重现。
武吉班让新镇近山处目前仍是将军坐案，而组屋高楼林立处则是护城之堡。这里组屋的方位十分奇特，都向着土方，如向东南（辰方）、东北（丑方）、西北（戌方）、西南（未方），在这样的方位居住，又受将军的影响，多为人忠厚、脚踏实地，若想得非份之财则十分困难。
再者，此区气候宜人，对身体最吉，加上风景秀丽，山明水秀，空山若飘来一阵灵雨，如琴音响起，使人心旷神怡，文思大进。如有意培养子女成材，这是个不可多得之吉地。不要忘了，这位将军是文武全才，当可得将军灵气之助，成龙成凤。
应当注意的是由于此区多向土方，使人的性格易受影响变得固执，脾气不太好，且易得肠胃之病，女性则易得子宫疾病，所以必须多加小心。
