Are you aware that there is an unusually big crab land in Singapore? It comprises famour scenic spots like Mount Faber, Sentosa and the surrounding areas.

Singapore has more then one crab land. However, this particular one has the most special land formation. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the crab has only one single pincer.

This big crab is the thunder king. It is possible its pincer is bigger than its body and very powerful. Once caught up in its grip, one will have to wait till the roar of thunder startles the crab into loosening its grip. Although only a folklore, it is how the crab come to be known as the thunder king.

Feng shui views a crab land's mouth, eye and pincer as the most prosperous parts. Let us now look at Mount Faber and Sentosa.

Endless stream of Visitors Throughout Day and Night

Mount Faber is not a bustling place, but it enjoys a continuous flow of visitors both day and night. One section of the crab's pincer is the World Trade Center (WTC) and the pier and warehouses of the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA). A huge amount of cargo is swallowed everyday. Business in WTC is comparable to that in any part of Orchard Road. In fact, this is where the essence of Singapore lies. Singapore might be a small country but her port consistently ranks among the top tree in the world.

Although WTC and its surrounding area are not situated in the heart of Singapore and not easily accessible, the area is still flourishing. That is the magic of good feng shui.

Sentosa is an Open Pincer

The other section of the pincer is Sentosa. If this pincer is closed in a tight grip, it spells trouble. Fortunately, this pincer is open. This large pincer protects Singapore's economic powerhouse - its port services. Besides, it is also a world-renowned tourist spot and is a must on every overseas visitor's itinerary.

In general, crabs detest tall structures, especially if they are red as it is the colour of cooked crabs, thereby symbolising death. Only the single pincer thunder crab is not afraid of red. Little wonder then that this unique crab stands guard over an outstanding harbour.

This thunder crab land enjoyed great prosperity in the 1980s and 1990s. What awaits it after year 2000?

As based on the government's plans for Singapore's South-western coast, Keppel Shipyard has shifted to Tuas. Its original site has been modelled after Florida in the US and Australia's Gold Coast, replete with a stretch of upper-class residential apartments, leisure and recreation spots and hi-tech business development areas.

As for suggestions to build a casino on Sentosa, I feel that is not wise. Sentosa is a family-oriented entertainment area and with a casino, it will definitely not be a kid's haven. It will be better to build a Disneyland-like oriental theme park and a water sports leisure centre so as to attract more local visitors. A heavy flow of visitors will further strengthen the prowess of the crab.
