Kay Siang Hill (West)

Kay Siang Hill (West) - Two Children Reading Books

The feng shui and landform of Kay Siang Hill were unique and interesting. Its formation was known as two children reading books.

In the 1990s, both New Town Secondary School and Tanglin Secondary School shifted out. Recently, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education (MOE) moved out, and the Ministry of Home Affairs will also be relocating. This area will then become a prestigious residential area. The two children reading books formation this needs to be adjusted. But where is the formation's new location?

Mirages are common occurrences on the high seas as well as in the desert. The two children reading books formation is seeing a similar phenomenon. It has been observed that the short stretch of Dover Road is flanked by many good prestigious schools such as Fairfield Primary and Secondary School. Anglo-Chinese School, Anglo-Chinese Junior College, ITE Dover, United World College of Southeast Asia, Dover Court Preparatory School, Singapore Polytechnic and New Town Secondary School.

Now that MOE has moved here, its feng shui will be as good as in the past on Kay Siang Hill. My experience tells me that if a potent feng shui formation is damaged for a brief time, it will surface elsewhere. This was noted in my ancestors' records. I believe the phenomenon of two children reading books will continue and education in Singapore will have a bright future.

Singapore's education system has elicited both bouquets and brickbats from various quarters. Some argue that it has resulted in the erosion of cultural roots. Others have lauded it for incorporating the best of both East and West, which was especially pronounced in the 1980s when the government tried to foster East-West cultural exchanges.

Today, the stark contrast between the Chinese and the English educated is less pronounced. In fact, Singapore's education system has over emphasised technical knowledge at the expense of moral education. Problems have therefore developed among youths. The new feng shui formation may exert its influence on the provision of civic and moral education, thus producing a cultured generation with moral substance as well as technological competence.

Finally, my belief is that the relocation of the National Institute of Education to this area will strengthen the feng shui here and we can then expect a better education system in Singapore.
