Yunnan (West)

Yunnan Garden (West) - Old Tree with Entwining Roots

Yunnan Garden became famous because of Nanyang University. Now its popularity lies with the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) . In the early 1950s, before NU was constructed, the whole of Yunnan Garden belonged to the Hokkien Clan Association which had set up the Yunnan Development Company to develop the area.

Under Tan Kah Kee's guidance and with the support of the masses, NU was founded on 15 March 1956. Over the next 20 years, it nurtured numerous talents who made great contributions to society. However, it was closed in 1980 as it could not conform to social development.

Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI) replaced it on 8 August 1981. Its main role then was to produce a large body of engineering professionals to meet the needs of Singapore's economic development. With the addition of hostels, the formation evolved from an old tree with entwining roots into the roc spreading its wings. In 1991, NTI expanded into NTU and took in more than 7, 000 students.

When China opened up, many former NU graduates rose in importance and instantly became widely sought-after. Although working overseas, they have strong feelings not only for their homeland but their alma mater as well, confirming the effect of good feng shui.

Though Yunnan Garden initially looked set to have a quiet time, much life has since been breathed into it, especially with high-rise residential flats sprouting up in nearby Jurong East. Its future looks promising indeed.

Why is Yunnan Garden so indomitable? From the feng shui perspective, NU was set on an old tree with entwining roots formation which was actually a literary star, thus making the area suitable for education. But NTI and later, NTU, had greatly expanded beyond NU's original central point, the old administrative block. NTU's heartland is now to the right of NU, thus changing the formation to that of the roc spreading its wings

Though both the roc and the eagle belong to the same family, the eagle is closely associated with brawn while the roc is closely linked to literary capabilities. But, the roc is no weakling and possesses both gentleness and strength. It is the symbol of refined generals like the famous Chinese patriot Yue Fei, who was equally adept at wielding the pen and the sword, and who burnt with patriotic sentiments. Legend has it that Yue Fei was the reincarnation of a roc.

Residents in this area should be ambitious and set great goals, for they will be able to build up a great future with their bare hands.

A Roc Spreading Its Wings: Take Note of Interpersonal Relations

A roc is capable of rapid take-offs and covering long distances. This can arouse jealousy, so successful residents here must cultivate good interpersonal relations.

This environment is conducive to those striving for fame and achievements, and benefits people pursuing a career in politics, the armed forces or the arts. As for commercial development, businesses related to the arts or food and beverage will have good potential.

NTU is gradually gaining worldwide accreditation, demonstrating the feng shui power of the roc spreading its wings. People working there are advised to promote good interpersonal relations, study diligently; work hard and refrain from being too vocal and over-critical.

Above all, bear in mind that one must always repay one's gratitude and to remember one's roots.

Yishun (South)

Yishun (South)- Land of the Collapsed Plum Blossom

Yishun is a scenic place, with Seletar River as its backdrop and the Straits of Johor right in front. Its stunning scenery is graced by luxuriant greenery and flowers that bloom all year round.

Named after the millionaire Lim Nee Soon, Yishun village was occupied by the Teochews in the early days.

As such, this place definitely is a piece of divine land with outstanding inhabitants.

Based on feng shui, this land can be considered a collapsed plum blossom that rivals Teochew's Mount Sangpu . Though not as awesome, this plum is still extraordinary and has produced countless famous businessmen. Collapsed plum blossom differs from fallen plum blossom in that the former refers to both the flower and its stem dropping to the ground. As such, the hills in Yishun are not high and every inch of the land resembles plum blossoms.

As you might know, plum, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo are called the four winter friends. In fact, plum, orchid and chrysanthemum blossoms can be seen in Yishun, thus it has many gardens. The sparrow land at the Orchid Country Club often sees hordes of visitors flocking here to unwind over the weekend. During a game of golf, they will jump like joyful sparrows if they hit a hole-in-one.

Yishun belongs to the four seasons formation, and is suitable for people holding clerical or proper jobs, as opposed to dabbling in illegal or immoral activities on the side. This district is conducive for official or teaching careers, and is especially good for people motivated to further their careers. As for those with improper desires or act impetuously and rashly, they will usually meet with obstacles.

Yishun is a windfallland, so those who live here will enjoy windfalls time and again. However, such fortune is transient. If we get into the habit of not working in the belief that we will strike it rich by luck, we might end up in legal tussles.

Yishun is also a land of leisure. Trade, food and entertainment businesses will thrive here as a sense of grace pervades the area, a rare occurrence indeed.

Often assailed by the harsh northeast wind, especially in November and December, Yishun's residents are vulnerable to colds which can persist for quite some time. The young and the elderly require extra care. When designing a house, the direction of the wind should be taken into consideration.

Yishun has a healthy atmosphere. Residents who have strayed from the path will find their way back, and those who lead upright lives will find the going smooth. Those with a thirst for learning will accomplish much, while those who prefer tranquillity can cultivate their minds and nurse their health here.

Sembawang New Town, formerly a British naval base, is where the Southern Dragon landed. Sembawang was still a forest 10 years ago. Today there is an housing estate here named after Lim Nee Soon's son, Chong Pang. Sembawang also links up Yishun and Woodlands.

Sembawang has a feng shui formation similar to a bamboo growing taller joint by joint. In this town, the more bamboo and fish ponds available, the better the feng shui, for it will result in the feng shui effect of lengthening joint by joint.

To enjoy promotion, residents have to work very hard and refrain from complaining. I urge residents here to be like the bamboo, possessing an open mind and slowly progressing upwards joint by joint, and to lead a carefree life. Only then can they achieve gracious living.

Yio Chu Kang (South)

Yio Chu Kang - Unique Five Talents Formation
Yio Chu Kang was once a bustling village. In the 1970s, it only had a narrow cement road known as Yio Chu Kang Road
The road was divided into sections named eighth, ninth, lOth milestone and so on. The lOth milestone was the busiest of all as it was lined on both sides with schools like Yio Chu Kang Secondary School, Pei Hua Presbyterian Primary School and Kong Hwa School (the latter two have since shifted). Kids would gather from all over to attend school. Community centres, shops, clinics and coffeeshops are abound too.

During the early 198Os, the government took over the land with plans to expand it into a major road. The shops along the l0th mile- stone were relocated or torn down, robbing the place of its life. In the mid-1980s, the government laid an expressway across this area. Resi- dents were relocated to Ang Mo Kio, Hougang and Yishun.

This area has a five rare talents formation comprising the butterfly, bee, dragonfly, cricket and locust (or grasshopper to some people).

The part of Yio Chu Kang near Upper Thomson Road is characterised by a valley land that slopes downwards. Valleys can give one a feeling of either melancholy or elegance. It is home to Tagore Lane named after the Indian poet, and is flanked by Teacher's Estate. This area belongs to the queen bee formation.

Bees are hardworking insects. They slog diligently and ceaselessly to nurture their young. This is a characteristic of the area. In general, residents will prosper if they work hard, and are especially suited for the literary and teaching professions. While there are many success stories in the queen bee formation, residents have to work even harder after they have tasted success.

Near the Seletar Expressway (SLE) is Lentor Avenue, where the famous twin butterflies formation is. Like bees, butterflies live on nectar, but unlike bees they have weak characters, are very dandy, revel in gracious living, and often mix play with work and vice versa. They are typical hedonists.

Buildings here place an emphasis on hues and tones, and the residents know how to enjoy life too.

Feng shui labels Seletar Airport as a golden locust formation. In feng shui this is a very auspicious formation. As the locust has a huge appetite, anything related to money will benefit from this formation.

However, this may not be good for people with weak destinies. The more money they have the less contented they will become, and soon they may lose control and end up in a deplorable state.

Jalan Kayu, being situated next to the golden locust, was affected by this formation and many suffered heavy losses during a share market crash in the 1980s. Thus, those who have tasted success must remember to exercise caution. Never spin out of control in a moment of greed, or be prepared to have your hopes shattered.

The next land of talent, known as cricket teasing dragonfly , is just outside Seletar village. This is indeed strange, for crickets are often the ones who get bullied. Moreover, dragonflies are usually found near ponds or the sea.

The Unique Five Talents Formation -Good for Settling Down

This is a low-lying, valley-like area that enjoys plenty of underground water. As such, the land is yin, ie, wet, dark and damp, and enjoys refreshing breezes.

Yio Chu Kang has Singapore's only feng shui cricket. As it is active and wields great supernatural power, it likes to poke fun at the mild-mannered dragonfly.

This formation enhances your ability to build up your fortunes from scratch and achieve success in unimaginable proportions. However, this being the land of cricket teasing dragonfly, if you do not cultivate yourself or progress one step at a time, in a moment of carelessness you might miss a step and fall back to square one. Businessmen who have suffered defeat must persevere if they want to benefit from this area's auspicious feng shui.

This five rare talents formation may appear ordinary; but is in fact very rare and will benefit those who choose to settle down here for good. As long as you continue to progress steadily even after tasting success, you will continue to enjoy success for a long time.

In the past decade, Yio Chu Kang has made much progress. Many posh private condominiums have sprouted up, occupied by those who have started off with nothing in their pockets but made it through hard work. Here, Seletar Expressway adjoins the other expressways, linking Yio Chu Kang to Singapore Changi Airport in the east, Bukit Timah in the central and Tuas in the west.

Leading to the two check-points, it is a vital northbound route. In the near future, when Sengkang expands westward to link up with Yishun, Yio Chu Kang will prosper even more. If Jalan Kayu is developed as well, the golden locust will advance in full force. It is only be a matter of time before the five rare talents formation unleashes its full potential.

Woodlands (Central)

Woodlands (Central): Golden Coin-storing Bowl

Woodlands Checkpoint Is Singapore's Throat

Woodlands Checkpoint is Singapore's northern gate.

Tens of thousands of people, including Malaysians and Thais, pass through here daily, proof of its critical position.

Everyday, a massive supply of vegetables, fruit and seafood is brought in through the checkpoint. As such, Woodlands Checkpoint acts like the throat of Singapore.

According to feng shui theories, Woodlands Checkpoint sits on a superlative gourd land -in fact, there are two gourds here. The bigger one sits at Johor and the smaller one at Woodlands, their mouths facing each other.

Before the separation of Malaysia and Singapore, people from the Federation of Malaya, especially the Johoreans, used to visit and spend lots of money in Singapore.

Today, Singaporeans flock to Johor. This is the amazing effect of the bigger gourd.

Inverted Gourd -Losses Outweigh Gains

In feng shui theory, the gourd possesses seven kinds of energy -suck, draw, reap, obtain, enter, close and seal. The highest level of feng shui theory terms this seven sword fairies of the inverted gourd.

These seven swords are not really inverted, but instead possess seven different kinds of power to lure people into gambling dens with no chances of winning. For this reason, this formation was commonly adopted by gambling dens and brothels in the past.

It is said that Macau's casinos also favour using it. Thus, no talisman or magic trick employed by patrons will be able to withstand the seven sword fairies of the gourd. Visitors will only chalk up more losses than winnings.

Though the vicinity of the Woodlands customs still retains the shape of a gourd, the BKE has cut the gourd in half, causing Woodlands to become less attractive. Moreover, BKE is built from high to low, resulting in an outflow of water from the gourd. Water symbolises money and the loss of water here is immeasurable.

In fact, Woodlands is a good location where the Central Dragon forms its den upon touching down. The Woodlands' land form consists of many undulating hillocks spread out in all directions. lts new town is built right in the centre, with an outstanding effect similar to the golden treasure basin of the Bukit Timah Turf Club then located at Bukit Timah's fifth milestone.

Although the basin at Woodlands is shallow, it is still capable of accumulating wealth. Woodlands New Town appears to be a golden coin-storing bowl. This district is conducive for wealth accumulation. It is also capable of accumulating strong wind and absorbing qi. In the study of feng shui, lands which absorb and retain qi are hard to come by. This is the best place for people with poor health to recuperate.

As a result, Woodlands New Town ought to build more parks, amusement grounds, holiday resorts and nursing homes, so that when arriving at an auspicious land people will feel comfortable and carefree. The most favourable bearing in Woodlands is south base facing north, so as to absorb the prosperous qi from across the Causeway.

Toa Payoh (South)

Toa Payoh and Kim Keat (South) - Land of Lotus Flower

Toa Payoh, known as Angchangshan to the older generation, was one of the first few satellite towns in Singapore. Often mistaken for the homonymous Ann Siang Hill in Chinatown, it is known as Tao Payoh today.

This town has aged very quickly. Those born in Tao Payoh have since grown up and set up their homes elsewhere, while the wealthier ones have moved to larger new towns. As a result, Tao Payoh's population demographic show a significant aging. If this trend goes on, Tao Payoh will become an old folks' village.

In the art of feng shui, Tao Payoh is identified as the land of lotus flower and consists of Lorong 1 to Lorong 8. The lotus is made up of layer after layer of petals, with its centre slightly higher than the rest. Surrounding it are lotus leaves and duckweed.

Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery is the Lotus

Her neighbour, Kim Keat, is also the land of lotus flower. The lotus is actually the famous Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery, also known as Kuanyin sitting on lotus land.

The lotus flower belongs to the waterlily family. When on the land of lotus flower, if tou are upright and honest or strive to be a person of great worth you will benefit from its good feng shui. As for the unscrupulous, they will make a name for themselves but of an infamous nature.

It is also very beneficial for those who are very pious, many of whom will have their wishes answered. Though centrally located, Tao Payoh is rather peaceful and its air very fresh, so you can seek peace in this bustling town or cultivate yourself.

But those with evil thoughts and who abuse religion for their personal interests are urged to stop before it is too late. As the lotus land is blessed. it is visited by both deities and devils, who cultivate themselves there. Those with weak determination or evil thoughts can be lured into performing perverse deeds. As long as you are contented and honest, you will be protected by deities. Also, the god of prosperity here likes to bestow wealth on the blessed. Moreover, in this area is a Seng Ong temple. The Seng Ong and Peh Kong deities share power over the distribution of wealth. As such, the upright will definitely enjoy good fortune.

Tiong Bahru (west)

Tiong Bahru (West) - Baffalo Sleeping Ground

The combination of four animals formation has driven two buffaloes away. One buffalo fled to Mount Faber, its head situated in front of two temples at Telok Blangah Heights. The other buffalo ran to Bukit Merah View.

According to feng shui, residents of the buffalo land must be hardworking and thrifty. They must put in effort and experience hardship before they can taste success. There are few opportunities for windfalls. Peace and happiness are assured as long as they do not hanker for fortunes.

A buffalo Manure land can be found in Tiong Bahru Park located behind Delta Secondary School. This place was originally infested with centipedes, but after a huge downpour in 1973 all the centipedes' dens were washed away. Many passers-by witnessed thousands of centipedes crawling away.

There is another piece of buffalo land in Sijiao Ting, which used to be Fujian Hengshan Tiangong Suo. It is a buffalo manger or buffalo shed and its sometimes called the buffalo herd fighting for food. As such, disputes among people are very common here.

Telok Kurau (East)

Telok Kurau (East) - Li Bai Ploughing the Field

Do you know there is an elegant estate in Singapore that is full of legends? It is Telok Kurau. In the past, it was where the distinguished and the refined rubbed shoulders leaving behind a legacy of charming tales and anecdotes. Today, it is a high-class residential district.

So why is Telok Kurau full of legends? It is due to the influence of feng shui.

In the study of feng shui, Telok Kurau is known as Li Bai ploughing the field. Li Bais is believed to be the incarnation of the planet Venus, a metal star. Telok Kurau belongs to the land of the Wood Dragon, which requires an environment rich in culture. As Telok Kurau is close to the sea where the sand on the beach contains metal, it is, therefore, very suitable for Venus to be on the land of the Wood Dragon.

Li Bai was a gifted poet and great drinker. Possessing an elegant bearing, he was also famous for his eloquence. Therefore, there are a lot of romantic and refined people among the residents of Telok Kurau. Some rich men have also hidden their mistresses here, while many stars have built their love nests in this area.

Layout Resembling a Farm Field

A lot of brand-new condominiums and mansions have appeared in Telok Kurau. Nevertheless, they have not erased the rustic charm of the area. The wonderful thing about his district is that its layout resembles a rectangular field, thereby bringing to life the imagery of Li Bai ploughing the Field.

There is an idiom that goes, When the horse dies, the ride walks on foot. A lot of businessmen still maintain their lavish lifestyles after their business have failed. They refuse to adapt to the new environment, but ultimately, they are the ones who suffer. If one's horse has died, one has to continue on foot. But there are people who simply refuse to give up their dead horses and instead, struggle to lug them along. Aren't they making life tough for themselves?

A few rich men once lived here. Unfortunately, their children were not able to continue with and expand their family businesses, fulfilling the Chinese saying riches do not last more than three generations.

Tanglin (Central)

Tanglin District (Central) - Pair of Unicorns Meeting at a Cornel

Do you know that there is a scholar land in Singapore? The scholar land is a place where talents congregate and is ideal for learning. Singapore's scholar land is quite unique. In feng shui, it is termed a pair of unicorns meeting in a cornel.

Unicorn Area Produces Talents

According to an ancient Chinese feng shui book, in ancient times examinations were held for the purpose of selecting the most outstanding candidates. The best few would be interviewed personally by the emperor, who would then select one as the top scholar. The ancient emperors firmly believed in feng shui. Hence before deciding on the top scholar, they would send a magistrate to the short listed scholar's hometown to check on the feng shui of their ancestor's residences or grace. Usually, the results showed that they reside on cornel land or golden clock land, but not on unicorn land. Apparently, all these three types of landforms are spiritual lands capable of producing talents.

Pairing a Unicorn land with a cornel land is like bestowing a pair of wings on a tiger - a lethal and invincible combination!

One of the two unicorns is situated at the NIE campus (previously the University of Singapore), while the other is located at the Shangri-la Hotel. The former is associated with scholarly pursuits and keeps records, while the latter is linked to wealth and draws in treasures. Eighteen clusters of cornel are scattered throughout this region. Cornel grows in abundance everywhere, especially on Lady Hill, which is why that area brims with foreign embassies and consulates.

A pair of unicorns meeting at a cornel land is the place for cultivating one's ambitions and fame. In the pre-war days, the present site of NIE was home to Singapore's institution of higher education - Raffles College. It later developed into the University of Malaya. The fact that it was built on this unicorn land in Singapore instead of in Kuala Lumpur, Malaya's capital is surely a display of wonders of feng shui.

After Singapore separated from Malaysia, the University of Malaya was renamed University of Singapore. The student population soared and it became impossible to accommodate the huge number of students, so it moved to Kent Ridge. The feng shui of the unicorn land is not in the least affected by this relocation. The land is still occupied by and institute of higher learning, NIE, and remains a spiritual land for nurturing talents.

Great Power of Prosperity Unicorn

The other unicorn is located at Shangri-la Hotel. Although it is rather inconvenient to reach due to its distance from the main road, the hotel is famous world-wide and has clinched many awards as best hotel in Singapore and Asia. In the late 1980s, when the tourism industry was adversely affected by economic downturn, the occupancy rate of many hotels fell by 50% But Shangri-la Hotel managed to maintain a 70% to 80% occupancy rate during that lull period. The fact that it continues to prosper proves the prowess of the prosperity unicorn.

The unicorn land is beneficial to people who are hardworking and talented. The unicorn is also called none of the four. The residents in this district must specialise in order to become professionals or experts. Gaining fame will then not be difficult. The only worry is that you becoming a Jack of all trades but master of none, thereby realising the prophetic term none of the four.

Tampines (East)

Tampines (East) - Talented Scholar and Ravishing Beauty

Today, if you go to Pasir Ris, you will not be able to see sand that is white as snow. However, you can see white sand at Tampines. Visit the area in Bedok Reservoir near Tampines, and you can see heaps of white san. The sand is pure and crystal clear, presenting a scenery as charming as a beauty looking in the mirror.

Pretty as a Peach, Cold as Frost

Although this beauty is as luscious as a peach, she is also as icy as frost, giving us a sense of aloofness. The strange thing is that the buildings' structures and colour schemes in Tampines convey an impression of understated elegance. This enchanting lady has drawn out a talented scholar playing the lute formation.

A talented scholar land is associated with playing the lute, reciting poems, painting or playing chess.

Both the beauty and the scholar are well endowed and tend to be proud and conceited, particularly so for the gifted scholar who is opinionated. It is unfavourable to those involved in the artistic and creative fields, but unfavourable to businessmen whose customers will find them haughty and unapproachable. Furthermore, a talented person may take the extreme when dealing with people, making him incapable of handling complicated human relations.

Lead a Clean and Honest Life; View Fame and Fortune with Indifference

There are two types of talented scholars- the first makes a clean and honest living and is indifferent to personal fame and fortune; the second hankers for fame and fortune. The former will find the talented scholar land a favourable place to live in, while the latter may encounter obstacles in his career prospects.

A person who grows up in a talented scholar and ravishing beauty land is easily influenced by its qi and become arrogant, doing things as he pleases and harbouring a strong distaste for rules. A talented person needs to be appreciated and groomed. If he encounters someone who does not recognise his abilities, his talents will go to waste.

The same goes for the alluring beauty. If she depends on her beauty and becomes a conceited, neglecting knowledge acquisition and character building, she is then just an empty shell who looks good only on the outside.

Sickness is the greatest enemy of the scholar and the beauty. Tampines is open to the assaults of the seasonal northeast wind, which blows at the end of the year and brings it plenty of rain and chill. Furthermore, the nearby sand is of the metal element, meaning temperatures can vary abruptly from freezing cold to scorching hot.

Naturally, it is favourable to creative people who enjoy literary discussions and whose inspirations and ideas flow in abundance. However, those with a poor combination have to pay particular attention to their health as they may catch a cold easily. Therefore, it is advisable for the residents of Tampines to have a lot of greenery at home to disperse and cold qi. for those living in HDB flats, more potted plants and bonsai are recommended. These can dress up the house and moderate room temperature at the same time.

As for interior design and decoration, including accessories, furnishings and facilities, warm colours like red or cream are preferable while cool colours like blue and green are best avoided. Do not clutter your home or circulation of the air will be obstructed and humidity built up. If the house owner keeps collectables or books and magazines, he must protect them with mothballs and desiccators. It is even better if he can put these items out under the dun once in a while. House owners who have installed air-conditioners in the rooms should let the sun shine into the rooms whenever possible.

Doing business in Tampines will be a steady and smooth-sailing process without any unnerving fluctuations in performance. The environment here is good for service providers and retails businesses. IT is also favourable for those involved in culture and the arts or with technical skills to settle down in Tampines. Some people say in jest that the talented scholar has been lured away by the peacock in Pasir Ris to become a prince while the ravishing beauty has been drawn to Simei to become a prince while the ravishing beauty has been drawn to Simei to become a princess. This is just idle talk and is up to readers' discretion to believe it.

Singapore River (Central)

Singapore River (Central) - Carp Jumping over Dragon Gate

Singapore River is the river of life and of history.

It is the starting point of Singapore's prosperity and the breeding ground for her industrial and commercial business. Between 1819 and the 1970s, entreport trade was the main pillar if Signapore's economy and the Singapore River was the heart of business activities - warehouses lined up on both sides of the riverbank served as the control centre.

Today, the boats and sampans are not longer seen. Singapore River has become a quiet and peaceful place. The Singapore government has converted it into a tourist and leisure hub. We can say life is like a game of chess where every move is completely new.

A live Carp

I once accompanied my late father to Boat Quay and caichuantou to view the feng shui of Singapore River from the berth. We spotter plenty of white pebbles that resembles fish row, while boats bobbing on the river surface looked like fish scales.

Now, the fish scales have disappeared but the dragon gate reminds. The Fullerton Building, Victoria Theatre and the old Parliament House represent the dragon gate.

Presently, surrounding the dragon gate are skyscrapers, each taller than the next, representing obstacles to the carp in its attempts to jump over the dragon gate.

From a feng shui viewpoint, Singapore River has the landform of a fertile female carp capable of breeding more fishes. It also has a great life force. Its lull period is thus temporary and it will son revert to its vivacious, vibrant self.

Time and tide wait for no man. Since we cannot turn back the clock, we have to adapt to the times. Let us take a leaf from the Singapore River, which, despite having enjoyed more than a century of glamour, has reinvented itself to meet the challenges of the new era.

Singapore River recently underwent a series of changes and transformations, resulting in a formation where several small carps swim alongside a big carp towards the river mouth. A bird's eye view readily reveals this interesting pattern. The riverbanks have developed into night spots flanked by a quaint mix of European-style buildings and those conserved with a touch of colonial Singapore. Locals and foreign visitors throng the numerous pubs, eateries and stalls there. The Singapore River is like a window that displays Singapore's unique image. After 2004, this river of life will once again come alive.

The Singapore River belongs to the carp jumping over dragon gate formation with the gate situated at the river mouth where two bridges were previously sited. In 1972, the predecessor of the Singapore Tourism Board placed a sculpture of the Merlion by the famous sculptor Lim Nang Send, at the mouth of the dragon gate as a symbol for Singapore's tourism. Reverend hong Choon conducted the settlement ceremony. In end 1997, the position of the Merlion was lowered after the Esplanade Bridge was completed. Some people saw this as the nation's feng shui being suppressed and argued for changes.

Personally, I do not agree with them. Singapore River's prosperous qi had changed and the Merlion of the Singapore River and Kallang River were merged, with the water slowing into the sea near Marina South.

After more than 20 years, the Merlion has gained worldwide recognition. It is a pity the big new bridge has undermined its glamour. Perhaps the Merlion should be moved to the river mouth in front of the Grand Fullerton Hotel, in the central business district facing the Esplanade. A better idea is to move the Merlion to Marina South facing the spot where the Singapore River and Kallang River flow into the sea, so that it can once again protect Singapore.

Simei (East)

Simei - Twin Butterflies

Simei, literally four beauties, was named after China's four great beauties - Wang Zhaojun, Xi shi, Diao Chan and Yang Guifei. They were greatly admired and doted on by high-ranking officials and nobles. Although all their material needs were fulfilled, their spiritual health was less than ideal and they all passed away greatly unhappy. They could not live to a ripe old age with their loved ones, and were sickly and melancholic. Whenever I embarked on a feng shui assignment in Simei, I would worry for my clients' emotional and physical well being. It was not until 1997, when the twin butterfly-shaped New Changi Hospital was built, that the situation improved. Why is this so?

The reason is very simple - its name is wrong. This area has a double bliss formation and this usually refers to butterflies. If used in thee context of good fortune it means, double happiness. Take for example, the legend of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. There were married in seven lifetimes, but never once did they have a happy ending until their seventh lives, when they eventually turned into butterflies and flew off to eternal bliss. The aura of this area is supposed to aid the relations of married couples but unfortunately, this estate has an inappropriate name and so, problems arise.

Hence, the twin butterfly-shaped New Changi Hospital enhances the double bliss formation and restores the patients of this area to good health.

Many people do not realise that when a couple's relationship deteriorates, it may not be due only to emotional troubles or domestic problems. It can also arise from health problems, especially sex-related illnesses. Women are more like to have womb and uterus diseases. All these will definitely put a strain on the couple and tempers will fly, derailing the relationship. If this problem is not resolved immediately, the consequences will be unthinkable.

Having a hospital here will not only improve the feng shui, but will also make it more convenient for people to go for regular checkups. Naturally, all good things will fall into place with health restored. As the saying goes, A Tired bird will return to tis nest when everything is peaceful and quiet back home.

In Simei, jobs that are associated with women, the medical field, teaching, food trade, consultation or department stores will do well. For those living here, remember the old ageg, Family harmony will ensure that everything goes smoothly.

Serangoon (East)

Serangoon New Town - Lone Phoenix Heading for the Sun

Serangoon's Chinese name means dragon's mound', but in feng shui Serangoon is actually a phoenix's mound. Many may wonder why this fact is not reflected in its Chinese name. The reason is that its Chinese name was translated directly from the Malay word serangoon.

Serangoon Road is a very long road, stretching from Kandang Kerbau (Tekka) to the end of Hougang. Due to its length, this road is divided into sections. It starts from Kandang Kerbau (also called Little India), and then proceeds to Bendemeer, Potong Pasir, Serangoon and then to Hougang. The famous Serangoon Garden is located near Serangoon New Town, Many upper-income residential estated are situated alone Serangoon Gardon and Lorong Chuan. Most of the residents here are highly educated intellectuals and professionals.

Teochews Are Fond of Phoenixes

So why should the name Serangoon be changed to mean phoenix's mound? In the early days, the Teochew clan's business arm, Ngee Ann Kong Si, spotted this land with the one phoenix heading for the sun formation. They were very pleased as the Teochews had a great love for the phoenix, stemming from the fact that back in their homeland, their prefectural city was named Fengchen (Phoenix City).

Phoenix land is yin and benefits the female. The feng looks for a huang to be its companion. Likewise, to make a perfect match a noble woman should be paired up with a field commander. Phoenix land produces a lot of intelligent woman. Do not be fooled by their frail appearances; what you cannot see is their quiet dignity.

It is not only the women of the phoenix land who have impressive and dignified manners, the men have also likewise been influenced and are refined, manly and meticulous. Hence, the men need to take up more sports and group activities to enhance their manliness.

According to my feng shui assessment, the ground here is blood red in colour, the soil sticky and the force still very strong. So residents can live here without any worries. As for windfalls, these will happen every now and then, but the winnings will not be spectacular.

The phoenix land is suitable for those in the culture, education and military fields. As for business, it is advisable to concentrate on high-quality products that cater to professionals. When choosing the colour schemes of your home, it is best to use soft colours like pastel blue. Keep to simple decorations that convey a sense of stability. White Crane Spreading Its Wings

In the art of feng shui, Serangoon Central and its neighbouring area has the one and only white crane stretching its wings formation in Singapore. Both the phoenix and the crane are precious birds. The crane is the fairy in the bird family, and is often featured in fairytales carrying a deity on its back. Riding a crane is as prestigious as travelling in an expensive car. Cranes are graceful and independent, so a crane land is considered as exquisite land. Residents of the crane land should set big goals in order to be outstanding.

A crane is also a symbol of longevity, and this is especially so for women living on a crane land. For men, the crane land will benefit career development.

A crane land benefits those in fields like design, religion, culture, advertising, furniture, communication and transport. With the support of the crane land, businessmen should set up branches of franchises overseas. If the children's school results are good and the parents can afford it, the children should be sent overseas to further their studies.

Cranes are precious creatures, hence married women living here should try to give birth to more children as these children will eventually benefit from this crane land.

Serangoon Garden - Imperial Scholar Perusing a Scroll

Serangoon Garden (formerly called Angsali), is a famous feng shui estate in Singapore and should not be left out. In the early days, Angsali was a very famous estate with a large number of successful English-educated residents. It also had a high concentration of people holding PhDs, Master and Bachelor degrees, teachers, principals and other professionals. A large number of residents also pursued higher education overseas.

The Higher You Climb, the Harder You Fall

According to feng shui, Serangoon Garden has an imperial scholar perusing a scroll or imperial scholar editing a scroll formation. This is a valley, but its gourd-like shape does not constitute a complete formation and the landform is similar to that of a large palace with numerous inner courtyards. Hence, some call it Solitary Inner Palace.

In ancient times, imperial scholars were a group of specially selected scholars serving the emperor. Each philosopher specialised in a particular field. They held high posts because they worked closely with the emperor and accompanied him in his studies.

This imperial scholar perusing the scroll formation in Singapore is rather special. Its overall layout looks like an ancient bamboo scroll.

There is a saying that accompanying the emperor is like accompanying a tiger. The imperial scholar, being the emperor's personal official, would be in for a hard time if he served a temperamental emperor. As such, residents in this estate should pay special attention to what they do and follow the rules. Never turn to risky business. For those who prefer a shortcut to success be warned, the higher you climb, the harder you will fall.

Upper Serangoon Road - Golden Fowl Perched on Lotus

Along Upper Serangoon Road, just after Upper Serangoon Shopping centre (formerly known as Hougang 5th milestone), you will notice the many temples and churches standing at attention along both sides of this road. We can certainly say every five steps bring us to a temple and every 10 steps to a church. Set among these temples and churches are luxurious bungalows.

The reason for this unusual arrangement is that this is a golden fowl perched on lotus land which is different from the normal fowl land. Moreover, the presence of the celestial crane and the nearby lands of the phoenix, deer and mandarin duck enhance it. On top of that, the golden fowl is standing on the lotus, a very rare situation indeed.

The golden fowl is proud by nature and sticks to a vegetarian diet - it takes great pride in tis purity. To Taoists, the golden fowl wields authoritative power, but in feng shui, this land is conducive not only to business, but also religious activities. However, both need to support one another in order to prosper forever.

Land of Golden Egg - Great Food Fortune

The golden egg is thee most precious gem in the golden fowl land. The golden egg is bound to be near clear and sweet flowing water and egg-shaped pebbles in white or gold.

If by chance you come across a golden pebble, treasure it. To be able to live on a piece of golden if land is indeed very lucky, and residents will prosper. It is also believed that if temples are built on a golden egg land, prayers will be answered.

The Golden Fowl land benefits those dealing in business related to the metal element, such as jewellery and metals, or the fire element. Hence, it is not surprising that some of Singapore's most successful jewellery business men gain fame and fortune here.

A word of advice for residents: after you have prospered, do not flirt or indulge in debauchery or your fortunes will be depleted.

How are the golden fowl and lotus lands related? Actually, Hougang is a paired lotus land and beside it is an exclusive residential area with a mandarin duck formation. A horned chestnut floats by and, together with the golden fowl, creates a formation that has turned this area into prosperous land.

The golden fowl is to be found on the lotus, but it likes to play with water. Residences here will benefit from having ponds, be they big or small. The most favourable colours for this area are blue, white and gold, while yellow and cream should be avoided.

Chipped Ingot - Do Not Be Greedy

Let's proceed to Serangoon North's residential estate. It is not a big estate but has good feng shui, and is called the floor full of ingots land. There are many ingot lands in Singapore. Though this estate's ingot is not very big, it has a huge sphere of influence. Unfortunately this ingot is chipped, hence, though the fortune of tis residents is rather good it is not very potent. To make up for this flaw, residents should do more good deeds, donate to charity and use their wealth wisely.

Sengkang (East)

Sengkang - Frog Land

Sengkang New Town is located near Sungei Serangoon and sits between Hougang and Punggol New Town.

There is an executive condominium here called the Rivervale, which is known as Carp River Garden in Chinese.

Taking Sungei Serangoon to be a carp river has nothing to do with feng shui. Carps need to be near the beach where freshwater and seawater meet. The water must be deep and the current strong. Although Sungei Serangoon resembles a fish, it does not meet the above criteria and so, cannot be considered a carp river.

Despite Sungei Serangoon and the lotus land of Hougang being closely related, Sungei Serangoon is actually a frog land. Before Sengkang was developed, frogs could be seen everywhere. However, all the frogs are in hiding now. The frogs mate here while the tadpoles grow up in Sungei Serangoon.

Frogs, tortoises and snakes are considered heavenly creatures and can survive both on land and in water. For a human being to acquire this ability, one first needs to attain a high level of cultivation. This explains the number of places of worship built on this frog land, which might also mean that people with great abilities like to cultivate themselves here.

Residents of the frog land are quick thinking, laid back, magnanimous with mild tempers and tenacious in handling pojects of their interest. As the frog land is also lucky, people with weak wills and no ambition may, after receiving some good luck, become lazy and start to daydream about getting rich without working for it. However, those with strong wills and great ambitions will benefit from this land and be able to apply their wisdom in daily life.

Rochor Road (South)

Rochor (South)- Golden Ingot Paying Respect to the Sage Den

Rochor River, characterised by its black water, flows through seven of the main roads in an area known as Small Slope. In the past, after Singapore's commercial port was opened, this area became a tiny commercial district with a dense population and a busy thoroughfare.

There were two popular street near Rochor River - Bugis Street and Sungei Road was always very crowded, with stalls set up close to eacha other and the lights bright as daylight. People throng the lanes in endless waves, and their numbers rivalled those in Chinatown and Nan Tian Market.

Bugis Street was famous as an open-air food paradise and was a must for all tourists. At nightfall, tourists could be seen enjoying their drinks under the bright lights and tasting local specialties. The day literally never ended! On top of that, the transvestites plying the area and flirting coquettishly with the tourists gave the place its unique character and became a top draw in Singapore's tourism industry. Travel magazines the world over featured the transvestites but also Bugis Street.

Today, the wheel of redevelopment and the MRT trains whizzing through the area have wrought great changes. Not only has Bugis street changed beyond recognition, the transvestites have also disappeared.

How does feng shui explain these changes? And what must businessmen operating in this district take note of?

Golden Ingot Paying Respect to the Sage Den - Meeting point of Religions

Feng shui refers to Rochor as the golden ingot paying respect to the sage den, but the place has been called the golden horse neighing den or land of golden leaf. The first name came about as the area resembled an ancient gold ingot on the ground. This area used to have many rivers and was not only muddy, but also extremely sandy, so it was also know as the land of gold. You may have observed that the trees here are generally tall and slender.

Land with such topography is conducive to the development of religions. That is precisely why the major streets in Rochor are lined with churches, temples and even Singapore's oldest mosque. There is even a Jewish Synagogue in the vicinity of the popular Kwan Im Tong Hood Temple at Waterloo Street. Christian and Catholic churches can be found on every street. Christian and Catholic churches can be found on every street. This feature gave rise to the term golden ingot paying respect to the sage den.

This district is not suitable for buildings with the tall, squarish features of the wood element. Instead buildings shaped like a rectangle, a temple, a bagua or an ingot are most desirable. The best colours to adopt inside and outside the house are gold, yellow and white, and while green and red should be avoided at all costs.

There should not be too much of the water element here too, so avoid fountains or your wealth will be washed away.

Medical practices and businesses dealing in religious artefacts, entertainment, transportation, medical products, fruits, timepieces, electrical appliances, fashion and beauty will flourish, but it is best to have a focus instead of diversifying too much.

People regard this area as a place where prices are reasonable; hence it is not wise to sell expensive products here.

Queenstown (west)

Queenstown (West) - Land of the White horse

There is an old saying that the white horse patrolling the land of gold and silver horse cart near the old Queenstown Shopping Centre still mourns the loss of its tail.

From the landform, this white horse seems to be situated between Stirling Road and Queensway. Its head faces Queenstown Swimming Complex while its read is beside Queensway Road. To the left is Mei Chin Street and on the right, Alexandra Road.

What are the characteristics of a horse land? A horse is enthusiastic and assertive. It is awe-inspiring, especially if it is a white horse, and is extremely loyal to both its master and duties. But a horse has shortcomings as well. It is over ambitious and lacks perseverance.

People who have lived on a horse land for a long time will be successful in their careers and gain fame. However, due to the horse's stubborn nature and lack of perseverance, residents' initial success might end in failure. But a horse must not experience failure. A dejected horse is devoid of fighting spirit and will have difficulty getting back on tis feet. It will only regain its confidence with the help of a nobleman.

Apparently, the white horse had its tail snipped off by three mischievous children. It had belonged to a well-do-to family and was very pampered by its owners. Thus, it must have been devastated when it lost its gold and silver cart after its tail was cut off.

But it was not an ordinary horse. Being loyal and very concerned over the loss of tis cart, it refused to leave. Gradually a den was created. Luckily there is an abundance of grass and the Queenstown Swimming Complex provides the horse with drinking water. Its head is located on top of a small hill not far away.

Recently, many new flats have come up near Stirling Road, greatly changing the surrounding area. Fortunately, the horse formation has remained more or less unchanged. It must be noted that the sole water trough in the vicinity is Queenstown Swimming Complex. Hopefully, it will not be shifted or that will spell doom for the horse land. In addition, after losing tis tail and with its pride badly bruised, the horse did not know where to go, so the best move is to retrieve its tail.

How to go about it? As the formation has changed somewhat since the horse lost its tail, recovery will be quite difficult. It might be good to try the feng shui principle of substituting form with form and plant some masson pine to support the horse land's feng shui.

Residents here may be influenced in some way; they are easy-going but lack endurance. While men here lack passion for work, they love and care for their families greatly and will do their best to provide for their children's education. Ladies who marry men who grew from this area can rest assured that they have a blissful home.

From the above we gather that a disappointed horse needs guidance and support. Residents with a good boss or leader will usually be brilliant in their work and able to unleash their full potential. On the other hand, those with mediocre boss or leader will not shine.

The horse land is good for those who wish to develop and open up new markets, but difficult for those who wish to hold on to existing businesses. The latter's chances of success are as slim as that of the white horse waiting to recover its tail and cart.

Punggol (East)

Punggol (East) - Crab Suppressed By Rock

Pig-rearing business brought Punggol fame, but in fact, the fates of pig farmers were not good and were as volatile as the tides in the sea.

Hairy Crabs are Impetuous

In the art of feng shui, Punggol is another of Singapore's crab land, but different from the ones at Mount Faber and Beach Road. This is a crab suppressed by rock land.

The crab here is a hairy crab which has drive, but is also impetuous and can get out of hand. The rock is unable to hold the crab down for long. It is believed that this crab will usually be suppressed for five years, after which it will be free for five years. Be on your guard during the period of suppression and attack in better times.

It was recorded in ancient books that the rock holding down the crab is round and smooth, with a large tree in front and a small stream by its side. If the rock is removed, the crab will wander off.

Due to the influence of ground qi, Punggol's fate will be subjected to periodic ups and downs.

When the government first unveiled the blueprint for Punggol 21, many people were taken aback. It was unbelievable that a place previously used for pig and chicken farming could be developed into a premier residential estate.

However, if flying star feng shui was used to predict this situation, it will not be so surprising. The next flying star will be Fortune 8 that stretches from 2004 to 2014, which coincidentally favours the northeast sector. This is the reason for the developments in Punggol, which is located in the northeast of Singapore.

Another reason can be gleaned from Punggol's crab suppressed by rock formation. Although the crab will be released every five years, no one is sure how long it will remain free. It can be for 20 or 100 years.

The rock is near the sea, so when the tide rises the hairy crab will start moving. The fortunes of the residents here will have ups and downs just like the tide. In order to maintain one's luck, one must be able to make timely and appropriate investments without being too greedy. Water is the most favourable element for this sector, hence, the more water the better.

An island off Punggol, Pulau Serangoon, is believed to be the rock that pins down the hairy crab. Although this crab has only one pincer just like the one at Mount Faber, it is less powerful. However, its power is greater when compared to the crab at Kiung Chow Hwee Kuan.

Pulau Tekong and Pulau Ubin (North)

Pulau Tekong and Pulau Ubin-Giant Python Patrolling the River

Pulau Ubin and Pulau Tekong are the two important islands forming the sections of the Northern Water Dragon that are visible above the water surface. Stretched out between Singapore and Malaysia, the Northern Dragon, also called the Guardian Dragon, contains the qi of each side so that the qi will not leak.

Since Malaysia and Singapore form the carp spewing a pearl formation, with Singapore the pearl spewed out from Johor's carp's mouth, the relationship between these two countries is very close.

This is a mutually beneficial situation because if the carp is without its pearl, it will not prosper, and if the pearl is without power, the carp will not be so highly prized. In fact, Johor has become one of the fastest developing zones in the Malaysian peninsula due to the reciprocal display of gratitude on the part of Singapore as its pearl. If the qi is cut off, it will not benefit either side.

The first causeway linking Singapore and Malaysia is mutually beneficial and complementary for both sides. The second causeway was constructed under the aegis of both countries. Unfortunately, it was completed just when Southeast Asia experienced a hot weather spell, causing the carp to feel trapped. The recent economic recession saw the second causeway being under-utilised. That is the result of a bad luck cycle.

After 2004, the second causeway will be as heavily utilised as the first causeway. If by then there are plans to build a third causeway, the best location is somewhere near Pulau Ubin, ie, from Singapore's Changi beach to Malaysia's Kota Tinggi. But we might see this plan being realised only after 2004.

Merrymakers have to be extremely careful when swimming or engaging in other sea sports in the vicinity of Pulau Tekong and Pulau Ubin, because the waters between these two islands face the mouth of Kota Tinggi River. The surface might appear peaceful, but the undercurrents can be strong, especially on the side facing Malaysia. In feng shui this region is known as the assembly of snakes.

Another example is Kallang River, where the undercurrents are strong and cases of drowning are rather frequent. Since natural phenomenons like these cannot be stamped out or avoided, we have to be careful.

The government's plan to link up Pulau Ubin and Pulau Tekong is favourable where feng shui is concerned. However, bridges should be built to link the two islands rather than reclaiming the area between them, which will cut off the water flow and affect the qi.

The reason is because the giant python in this area needs to surface every now and then, but it must not be made to float on the water surface permanently, for then it will not be able to display its prowess.

The area between Pulau Ubin and Changi Beach can be converted into a lagoon, while high-class residential buildings, leisure-cum-physical training centres can be built near it. Pulau Tekong should remain a military ground to guide the giant python. This will be similar to the Eastern Dragon's situation, where important facilities are built on the dragon's head so that the dragon's power will be magnified, which is in harmony with feng shui principles.

Singapore is a small island with limited natural resources. Her defence and aerospace industries are extremely important. Developing Pulau Tekong into a military base will activate the power of the Northern Dragon (the giant python) and propel Singapore's defence arm into the league of the internationally renowned which already includes Singapore's airport and seaport. On the other hand, as the giant python is capable of churning waves and overturning vessels, it needs to be restrained to ensure Singapore's internal and external security and enable the populace to live in peace and harmony.

The giant python is most fearful of pagoda-shaped structures. This has to be taken into consideration when building houses here. If there is a need to build a pagoda-shaped structure, the design must not look like a nail. The ponds in the island must be well-maintained to stay clean and full.

In 1997, Southeast Asia experienced the El Nino effect, sending temperatures soaring. This was accompanied by forest fires. This disaster thrusts two prospering countries, Indonesia and Malaysia, into an economic crisis.

Fortunately, Singapore survived the crisis as her government had worked hard all these years to protect and open up water sources and had also put an emphasis on environmental protection.

Feng shui and protection of the environment are intertwined. In fact, feng shui is the ancient precursor of environmental studies. It involves the study of the whole universe, including astronomy, geography and the harmonious coexistence of the human race with the environment. Even after acquiring a house with a good feng shui, we still need to protect and look after it in order to reap the positive effects.

Hence, in the development of Pulau Ubin and Pulau Tekong, which are located on top of the Northern Dragon, we have to protect the natural environment so as to support the giant python in its duty as the guardian of Singapore's feng shui.

Pearl's Hill (west)

Pearl's Hill (West) - Flying Dragon Disgorging Pearl

People's Park is very famous, unlike Pearl's Hill just a short distance away. Reason being that Pearl's Hill is where the Singapore's Western Dragon Ends. According to feng shui, this distract is called flying dragon disgorging pearl. Although some experts feel that Pearl's Hill is a piece of old mussel producing pearl land, the power conveyed by this term cannot be compared to that of flying dragon disgorging pearl.

This area enjoys auspicious feng shui and is conveniently located. Residents with a strong destiny will be blessed, but it is not an ideal place for people with weak destinies or little fortune and who hanker for windfalls.

People's Park

People's Park is outstanding because it is situated in the centre of the Flying Dragon's mouth. Some people claimed that the SGH counteracts the aura of Pearl's Centre while the Subordinate Courts counteracts the aura of People's Park Centre. In fact, this is not the case.

In the 1970s and 1980s, People's Park is a popular haunt. After that, due to the influence exerted by the primary fate of flying stars, the fate of the area was altered. This was especially obvious after Chinatown's night market shifted, Malaysia implemented duty on electrical goods brought back by Malaysians from Singapore and an exit tax was imposed on Indonesians. Little wonder then that People's Park began to decline in 1984 after these three big blows.

The aura of the ground dragon must be combined with heavenly luck and human aura. Feng shui changes every 20 years, with one decade favouring east and another decade favouring west.

Many feng shui masters advocate that SGH is a piece of white tiger land. while accurate, this is a caged tiger. If SGH is not a trapped tiger, Tiong Bahru cannot be the most auspicious piece of Buffalo sleeping ground. After being trapped for some time, the white tiger has started to learn tolerance and patience. Not only has it learnt not to harm others, it has also taken on the responsibility of saving lives. Hence SGH has been expanding and redeveloping, slowly gaining international fame. If the land is not auspicious, SGH will not be what it is today.

The plan to acquire and develop Outram Park is likely about more good than bad. This is because it is a unique area with commercial, residential and entertainment centres clustered together to form an entity of its own. Although it is once bustling, it is unable to keep up with changing times and evolving needs. In fact, the residential areas in Punggol and Choa Chu Kang display similar shortcomings. As they have been planned in greater detail and meet the needs of the people, they have been well received.

Outram Park was once home to a prison so the place gives one a sense of being confined, with its many deadends and enclosed spaces. Future redevelopment plans must take this into consideration.

The Police headquarter situated at the foot of Pearl's Hill will be moving to Cantonment Road soon. What will become of the old elegant building? It is somewhat irresponsible to demolish this landmark, a historical symbol of Chinatown. Converting it into a museum on traditions will not only showcase the spirit if Singapore from a bygone are, it will also be in line with the Singapore government's call to become a gracious society in the 21st century.

The fears that the MRT system will ruin the feng shui of Pearl's Hill are unfounded because the two MRT lines will not run through the hill at all and so, will not harm the dragon vein there. The Western dragon will continue to display its prowess and will contribute much to Singapore's technological developments.

Paya Lebar (East)

Paya Lebar (East)- Twin Goats Standing Guard

China has a :goat city while Singapore has a goat land. Guangchou, the goat city of China, is also the largest city in southern China and is known the world over. Where is Singapore's goat land? Not many people are aware that Singapore's goat land actually lies between the Tai Seng and Kaki Bukit Industrial Estates.

Stimulating the Development of Industrial Fields

What exactly is a goat land? What are its characteristics and how is it related to the goat city?
Let us begin with the goat. Goats look gentle, are well behaved, pure and kind. There are, however, the heroes in the animal kingdom. Normally, the goat will try its best to exercise forbearance, but there is a limit to its patience. When forced to the end of its tether, the goat will put up a great fight. This sudden change in temperament usually catches the opponent by surprise.

Precautions can be taken when a cow loses its temper, but when a goat throws a tantrum it is prone to do things without a thought for the consequences, not even death. As such, since ancient times, countless fearless heroes have appeared in China's goat city, Guangzhou, the most famous of which are the 72 martyrs of Huanghuagang.

When the nation is in trouble, the goat land will be galvanised into action, protecting the country from destruction and defending the people from harm. Even during peacetime, it does not remain idle and will work hard at promoting industrial development.

These two goats have another mission - to support Paya Lebar Airport. This has never changed.

Producing Bandits and Millionaires

What is interesting about this goat land is that it produces bandits, rich men, politicians and martial arts experts.

Today's Kampong Ubi Estate no longer has any tapioca, and has already been transformed into a light-industry estate. Tai Seng and Kaki Bukit are also experiencing massive changes as they develop into important industrial estates in Singapore. Hardware and mechanical engineering trades will prosper here. Food manufacturing, freight forwarding and interior decoration businesses will also be able to prosper.

In the art of feng shui, the goat land is good for industrial development. Goats are mammals that live together in groups. In Chinese history, goats are regarded as heroes because they fight their utmost best to the end. Goats are also regarded as filial creatures because they kneel down when suckling the mother goat, as if expressing their gratitude. They are celestial creatures and in Taoism are seen as nature loving and models of truth, trust, determination, honesty and mildness. Hence, there are numerous temples and other places of worship on a goat land.

A goat is determined and will gladly undertake what others avoid. If upright and moral, one will do well in one's career and benefit the whole of humankind. However, if one were to go astray, one will inflict danger and harm on society. Hence while developing industries here, we must not neglect ideological education in order to bring harmony and stability to society.

The basic structure of both the Kampong Ubi and Kaki Bukit industrial estates can already be seen and have attracted numerous small and medium local forms and overseas investors. Many people have consulted me on the right business to invest in these estates. The goat possesses an independent, introspective, determined, action-oriented character that likes to see its ideals being realised. Hence, those who dabble in pioneering business like high-tech industries; production of new goods like an innovative all-in-one hand phone, and e-commerce should be able to prosper here.

However, people with strong resolves are usually subjected to lots of pressure. It will thus be advisable to build some bridges and streams in the residential and industrial areas here to enhance the environment and alleviate the stress.

Pasir Ris (East)

Pasir Ris (East) - Peacock Flaunting Its Plume

Pasir Ris used to be called White Sand. Its beach is one of Singapore's famous bathing spots. The sand here is actually not pure white but very colourful. We can call it colourful sand land. Characterised by hillocks and sea breeze, it makes an ideal location for a vacation.

Good Geographical Location

In feng shui, Pasir Ris is known as the peacock flaunting its plume. The peacock that landed in Pasir Ris has its tail spread open, dazzling all with its colours. Strolling around Pasir Ris New Town you will see, though uniformed in design, and flats there re painted with colourful motifs, thus fulfilling the peacock flaunting its plume formation.

It has been mentioned in ancient books that a phoenix hides in the mountains whereas a peacock appears by the sea. The peacock displaying its plume and the phoenix with its wings spread open has their own charms. Pasir Ris has a good geographical location. It is near the Straits of Johor facing the Kota Tinggi mountain range. Faraway on the horizon where the sea and mountains meet, the sea and sky are the same colour. Together with the sails flapping in the wind and the seagulls flying in the air, it is a picture of serenity and peace that is hard to resist. It is no wonder that the literati and genteel people have chosen to settle down here.

Pasir Ris is without doubt the place for vacations. Here, you can find NTUC Pasir Ris Resort holiday chalets with first-class amenities, and a lot of other holiday chalet with first-class amenities, and a lot of other holiday chalets owned by the government and big corporations. For the aged, this is the perfect place to live out one's twilight years after retirement.

On the other hand, if a lazy person moves here, he will be intoxicated by the beautiful scenery. After sometime, he may lose his drive and fighting spirit. Therefore, young residents have to constantly remind themselves to conquer their laziness and to work hard. There is no cause for concern if ti is just a short stay for unwinding.

Suitable for Small Food Business

Another thing to note is that the peacock is a treasured bird. In the west, it is considered the king of birds. A peacock tends to be haughty and aloof because it is proud of its beauty. Residents should guard against being influenced by the ground qi. Otherwise they would become withdrawn and avoid interacting with others.

Come year-end, the seasonal northeast wing will bring heavy rain and chill to this area. Adults and children will find themselves prone to colds and flu; the ages are even more vulnerable. Home should preferably be swathed in warm shades like red, orange, pink or cream.

The most favourable business here are small eateries, shops serving exotic food, seafood restaurants and teahouses.

Due to the influence of the peacock's temperament, people have a tendency to become aloof and proud. If both the husband and wife behave as such, it is highly likely that quarrels will erupt between them. To prevent such conflicts, both husband and wife should be more tolerant. When peace prevails the family will enjoy prosperity.

The peacock land has a favourable influence on childbearing. Couples who wish to have more babies can consider moving here. This new town will most likely see a flourishing population.

Pasir Panjang (west)

Pasir Panjang (West) - Twin Lions Restraining River

Pasir Panjang has an amazing twin lions restraining river formation. One stands guard at the river mouth, and the other from the top of the mound by the sea - a very spectacular sight indeed.

The tail of the lioness is linked to the nine bends and 13 turns of the snake land, while her head is near the PSA building. The lion can be found at Tanjong Berlayer Park and together with Mount Faber's single pincer crab, it guards the river mouth. This is how the term twin lions leading the harbour came about.

During the Second World War, cannons were mounted on the lion and the crab in a vain attempt to protect Singapore against the invading Japanese forces. Today, the old cannons stand as reminders of the past, battle scars can still be seen and the lion's moods' have changed vastly.

A Long Stretch of Sand Land

Pasir is a Malay Word that means land of sand and panjang means long. Thus Pasir Panjang means long stretch of sand land and is the more prosperous area in Singapore's western region.

Legend has it that Pasir Panjang's twin lions had an unusual experience. In the past, when Malays dominated this area a Malay Chief headed the village. After his death, he was transformed into a stone and later appeared as the deity revered by people, Tua Peh Kong. Later the cubs of the original pair of lions stood guard on both sides of the Pasir Panjang Tua Peh Kong temple and were responsible for the fishermen's safe return.

With the passage of time and development of the environment, the feng shui of Pasir Panjang has changed too. A generator plant and an oil refinery plant have set up next to the old lion. Unaffected by change, it is able to retain its original source of feng shui. However, the lioness met with drastic changes. Blocks of flats and a fire station have sprung up on the lioness' head and body.

The temple was not spared from change too. It used to attract many devotees as it was believed that the stone structures in the temple constantly change their shapes. Devotees were convinced of the power of the stone Tua Peh Kong and the pair of stone lions. For some reason, the temple has since declined into a worn-down structure standing meekly beside a warehouse.

It is clear that deities, like human beings face ups and downds too. Recently, to my gratification, the stone Tua Peh Kong has been moved to a temple in Clement East where it is receiving good care.

As the cargo transport business gradually shifts from the south to the western part of Singapore, the area off Singapore's southwestern shore will be reclaimed and expanded to developed into an offshore casino city. The southwestern islands will no doubt progress very quickly after 2004 and contribute greatly to Singapore's economy.

Orchard District (Central)

Orchard District (Central) - Land of Seven Falling Stars
In Singapore, the physical configuration of each district has undergone vast changes in the past few decades with the most changes happening in Orchard Road. Who would have imagined that the present site densely populated by post four and five-stars hotels, was once a rural area with a cemetery? Even in the years just after the Second World War, houses in Orchard Road were spread out thinly, like a small town in Malaysia's mountainous area.

More than 20 years ago, Orchard Road started to take off, yet it was still not as famous as Chinatown. Today, however, Orchard Road is famous world over, leaving Chinatown lagging far behind with very little hope of catching up.

The great transformation of Orchard Road has to be attributed to the great foresights of Teochew feng shui masters of the past. Since ancient times, grave feng shui has been greatly valued by the Chinese. If ancestral graves were located in the right spots, descendants frequently would enjoy wealth and high-ranking positions.

Orchard Road was once a Teochew cemetery hill. Little wonder then that Teochew people have done so well in the fields of commerce, finance, education and politics.

Orchard Road is the land of seven falling stars in accordance with seven heavenly stars in feng shui theory. The land of seven falling stars is a land of official. With reference to China, Singapore is situated in the southern hemisphere so she belongs to the south. Should the seven stars fall in the north, they will benefit public service. Landing in the South benefits business. A poem related to the land of seven falling stars goes:
  • Seven stars fall to Earth and a castle is formed, With the presence of hilltops and waterways, It is a good time for reaping benefits, Golden tortoise and jade rabbit have a date.
Based on this poem, it is advantageous to design the land of seven falling stars in accordance with the shape of a castle. Just look at the major hotels in Orchard Road. Don't they resemble castles? This cannot possibly be just a coincidence.

Incredibly, according to the influence of the seven stars and castle, Orchard Road, Scotts Road and Shenton Way dace the direction of the earth element.

In the past, Orchard Road and Scotts Road each had a small river running through them that converged somewhere near Tangs. One was yin and the other yang; complemented by the appearance of the MRT, they were practically unstoppable when they merged.

Everybody wants to know the exact location of the land of seven falling stars. It is inappropriate to disclose this information, as it is one of the feng shui secrets of Singapore.

Today, more and more commercial centres have been built across Singapore. Will they be a threat to Orchard Road? Will Orchard Road lose its attraction? The answer is no.

If Orchard Road is linked to Marina Bay, its landform will be similar to Shanghai's Nanking Road, where the road stretches all the way to the sea. The only difference is that before reaching the port, this stretch of Orchard Road is divided into many sections, the most prosperous section is between Shaw House and Le Meridien Singapore, followed by the section between the Istana and Cathay Cinema. The other sections are rather ordinary, with the exception of the prosperous Plaza Singapura, which is where Orchard Road ends.

Since the Dhoby Ghaut MRT station has become a major MRT interchange, the whole of Orchard Road area will be moving into a completely new phase of development, linking up the prosperous qi of Orchard Road.

This prosperous qi is absent all the way from Rendezvous Hotel to Raffles Hotel, and is also missing from the Singapore Art Museum and the Singapore Management University's future site. This area is a leisure and cultural zone where people enter the world of literature, art and culture to understand Singapore's culture. Moving on, the prosperous qi shows up at Raffles City and Westin Stamford Hotel, and is cut off by the War Memorial Park before ending at Marina Bay.

In my opinion, it is necessary to plan redevelopment for the area as a whole and not intermittently. As Singapore's weather is hot and humid and occasionally rainy, it can be unbearable to walk along the streets in the day. Therefore it will be great if there is an underground tunnel, which stretches all the way form Orchard Road, to Marina Bay. This will certainly be welcomed and Orchard Road, stretching all the way out to the sea, will also be like Shanghai's Nanking Road.

In order to be successful, Orchard Road needs to possess extraordinary characteristics, just like Chinatown. As a classy shopping district, shops must be laid out densely and frequently renovated to offer shoppers a fresh feeling. In the late 1990s, Singapore's retail industry was badly hit and Orchard Road was the first to be affected. In my opinion, a lack of constant renewal was the main reason. A good example was Yaohan, a Japanese emporium which closed down in the face of intense competition. Nevertheless, Orchard Road is after all a piece of treasure land, and after making the necessary adjustments, it will certainly spread its wings and launch its attack once again.

For redevelopment, the best thing to do is the link each and every building with an underpass. The youngest generation not only shops for cheap and good stuff, but also pays attention to ambience. While strolling and window-shopping, they also want to unwind. If Orchard Road develops to its fullest, it will definitely make an important contribution to Singapore's retail and tourism industries.

Orchard District - Cathay and Shaw Organizations

After the Second World War, Singapore's two major movie organization, Cathay Organization and Shaw Organization, engaged in a fierce competition to control Southeast Asia's movie industry. Each launched a mind-boggling range of blockbusters, much to the audience's delight.

In the past, both Cathay Organization and Shaw Organization were on par. Their helmsmen, the Shaw brothers and Cathay's Dato Loke Wan Tho, were business whizz-kids and movie experts. Both parties had the support of many competent and talented employees. There was, however, another inconspicuous factor for their success - the heavenly secrets behind the auspicious feng shui and landforms of both organizations' headquarters. What are these heavenly secrets?

A Swamp Turned into Land of Gold

Cathay Building sits at the junction of four main roads: Orchard Road, Bras Basah Road, Stamford Road and Selegie Road. Though its outlook unusual, it is destined for prosperity.

This place was previously known as a triangle town. It is a superlative valley land that conceals three waterways. In feng shui, this is a very auspicious land. However, such land is not suitable for high-rise buildings, as they will block the dragon's qi, which can wreak havoc if disturbed. Cathay Building was the tallest structure in Singapore at the time of its completion and had thus violated the feng shui of the valley land. However, Cathay Building had continued to prosper over the years with the help of heavenly luck.

Shaw House is situated at the junction of Orchard Road and Scotts Road, which happens to be the land of the seven falling stars. Back then; when Shaw Organization decided to erect a building on this piece of land, it was overgrown with wild plants due to poor management. This swampy area was later changed into a prosperous land - this is the wonder of feng shui.

Both Shaw House and Cathay Building are built at an angle from the main road. The feng shui masters during that time must have spent a great deal of time and effort to achieve the castle gate secret.

In feng shui theory, a location slanted at 45 degrees to the main door or traffic flow is termed the castle gate secret. However, it does not mean that any building erected at an angle will acquire the benefits of good feng shui. It requires a combination of yearly luck, the angle, the year and time of development and the hour for the grand opening. If all these are not used in the right combination, the castle gate will lose its feng shui effect.

These two buildings were erected in the age of 5 (1944-1964) and renovated in the age of 6 (1964-1984), which favours the earth and wood elements, both buildings will benefit from heavenly luck and reached greater heights.

But, Shaw House will lose out on heavenly opportunities if it loses the castle gate secret when undergoing redevelopment. Thus, even after it was demolished and reconstructed in the 1990s and the new Shaw House building does not face south, the main entrance remains southward facing. Thus the basics of feng shui have not been changed and the auspicious qi is unaffected.

In comparison, renovations have been planned for Cathay Building, starting in 2000, to complement the construction of the Northeast MRT line, the redevelopment of Dhoby Ghaut MRT station and the conversion of the Rochor district into an arts corridor. The building will still face south, confronting the mouth of the Singapore River.

Actually, the interior design of Cathay Cinema was too old and did not keep up with the times. Demolishing and rebuilding it into an integrated intelligent building will not only see a breakthrough in the merger of culture and business but will also catch people's attention. However, the new building should not be square but preferably round or oval in order to meet feng shui requirements.

Orchard District - Tangs

Tangs, previously known as CK tang, was famous in the past for not operation on Sundays because owner was a staunch Christian. Today, in the face of changing business demands, it is open on Sundays.

The founder of CK Tang had travelled from the southern part of China to Singapore to start a business. Although CK Tang's geographical location and business were not bad, it was unable to harness the blessing of the castle gate feng shui. It was through the founder's determination, perseverance and philanthropy that let to its success today.

Act According to Feng Shui Principles

The present structure of the Tangs Plaza has a strong ancient Chinese finish. It is the only building in Singapore designed this way. The building's entrance faces Scotts Road and Orchard Road. The qi is extremely prosperous and advantageous to the castle gate. Thus, its future is extremely rosy. If an auspicious day and time had been chosen for tis groundbreaking ceremony, the result should be even more rewarding.

There is an old saying that Nanyang feng shui never lasts more than three generations. This is to remind friends whose roots are in Nanyang an alternative route for their younger generations' future. In the past, people who had worked hard and become rich in Orchard Road encountered many problems. Although Orchard Road is a prosperous feng shui land, it needs to be developed by the blessed in order to prosper.

After the construction of Tangs Plaza was completed, there were rumous of disputes among the Tang family. The family's worsening relations were publicised when Wheelock Place was built opposite Tangs plaza. The ownership of Tang's then Dynasty Hotel (now Marriott Hotel) fell into external hands.

At the time of writing, Tangs was about to be acquired. This is directly related to feng shui as the design of Tangs Plaza belongs to the wood element, whereas the design of Wheelock Place belongs to the metal element. Thus, the latter's conical roof is detrimental to Tangs Plaza. According to the relationship of the five elements, metal conquers weed and this confrontation will result in losses for both. When designing a building, the exterior should be given serious consideration. If a structure is in conflict with another, it will hurt both itself and the other party.
As the saying goes, Prosperous land is intended for the prosperous man; the prosperous man will be blessed with a prosperous land. Inauspicious feng shui while indeed an important aspect to address is only temporary. If one can overcome misfortune, everything will be fine. But then again, how many people are capable of overcoming it? Failure to audit feng shui will definitely lead to losses in the long run; failure to observe feng shui will mean that nothingness prevails.

Orchard District - Wisma Atria, Ngee Ann City and the Paragon

The land of seven falling stars does not enjoy a continuous rise and prosperity does not occur everywhere. However, the seven interconnected stars bless and look out for each other. As such, various parts of Orchard Road will se major change or minor prosperity.

Orchard Road has water everywhere but not roads. Roads enable each and every place to be connected as one. Therefore, buildings ought to created their own unique styles and be self-sufficient like a city.

Self-created Feng Shui Formation

In many circumstances, if a building cannot be built at a good feng shui location, it can still create a feng shui formation. Just as human beings are flexible, so is feng shui - therein lies the key to its mystique.

Whether by change or through painstaking planning, Orchard Road is full of tall buildings, conforming to the requirements of feng shui. This is indeed worth musing over.

Torrents demolishing the dragon kind's temple, safety is a blessing; Three joss sticks proffered to Tua Peh Kong, two door gods protect wealth.

A feng shui almanic by my ancestor also stated the following:
  • The hall of gigantic door faces the directions of wei and chou, Arrival of water deity brings blessings; Reversing the flow of water is not desirable; there is a world of difference between incoming and outgoing water.

Nine out of 10 buildings in Orchard Road face the direction chou and wei, where is northeast and wei is southwest. In feng shui, these directions indicate that water from outside is beneficial when flowing in, but not when it flows out. It is said rolling inwards leads to an accumulation of wealth, rolling outwards signifies complete emptiness.

Torrents Demolishing the Dragon King's Temple

Owing to the powerful torrents swirling around Wisma Atria, some of the buildings across the road are heavily battered. This is called torrents demolishing the dragon king's temple.

As a result, each building regarded as a dragon kind's temple must be rebuilt and fortified with dykes and dams, so as to prevent the outflow of wealth. If not good luck will be hard to come by.

Ngee Ann city sits on a plot of official stars land, which must shine in unison to prosper. The present design of Ngee Ann City is like a castle, the two towers on both sides symbolise majestic door guards protecting the castle. It is believed that the auspicious power will bring greater prosperity if the headquarters of Ngee Ann Kong Si shifts here. However, they will have to build a bastion to prevent water from flowing in a reverse direction.

Three Joss Sticks Stop Water from Flowing in the Reverse Direction

The Paragon, situated just opposite Ngee Ann City, had a unique design with three large pillars resembling joss sticks at its entrance. These three joss sticks had the ability to stop the waterway from flowing in the reverse direction. However, as the building was huge the prospect of water leakage was imminent.

The word paragon sounds like the name of the deity Tua Peh Kong. Because of the three joss sticks at the entrance, many people jokingly called it the Palace of Tua Peh King. Later, the property was very fortunate to be bought by a foreign consortium at a high price.

It was originally planned for the Paragon to be designed according to a white tiger formation. However, due to the structural design of the building, the three pillars were situated at the tiger's mouth holding its jaws wide open. It was thus be impossible for the tiger to show off its prowess. Thus, the various consortiums that had bought The paragon were beset with problems following its purchase.

In 1997, another transaction took place; I was then given a contract to audit the feng shui of the Paragon. I changed the building's formation to that of a smiling god of wealth astride a tiger welcoming and greeting the customers in a harmonious atmosphere. After the revamp, it looks more laid-back and elegant, and stands out from the other buildings at Orchard Road. Moreover, it complements the double guards of Ngee Ann City opposite. It looks like the seven falling stars are capable of displaying even greater power.

Orchard District - Grand Hyatt

One of Orchard Road's tourist host spots is the well-known five star hotel, Grand Hyatt. Its fame arises not just from its comprehensive facilities and majestic facade, but also because Reverent Hong Choon once gave it a feng shui audit.

Inducing Place Power, Not Supernatural Power

On the surface, the feng shui Reverend Hong Choon employed did not seem extraordinary. In reality, he had used the inducing palace power and not supernatural power, as many people had mistakenly believed.

Let's take the Grand Hyatt's first appearance in the early 1970s. In 1973, when Reverend Hong Choon was invited to check out the hotel's feng shui, he knew it was making good use of the castle gate principle. Unfortunately, the hotel was not in an ideal location, making it difficult to absorb water from an intersection. as such, Reverend Hong Choon made use of the inducing palace power and suggested that the hotel create a castle gate, water features, moving qi and a revolving feature at the cashier counter. What do all these mean?

To Have Both Castle and Water

According to feng shui, for the castle gate to achieve results, it is best constructed at 45 degrees from the main road. If there is not castle gate, then it will be necessary to tilt the existing entrance 45 degrees to create one.

A castle gate needs to have both a castle and water, just like an ancient castle protected by a moat. It is thus necessary to build a castle pond at the entrance. A castle pond with still water has little effect, so it is necessary to construct a fountain to provide a constant supply of water.

If qi is disturbed and becomes difficult to draw in, it is necessary to build a revolving door at the castle gate. This way, everything will be ready and just awaiting the arrival of good fortune. This change coincided with the middle period of the age of 6, when the golden tortoise (sun) and jade rabbit (moon) met, mutually benefiting each other.

The then Hyatt Regency followed Reverent Hong Choon's advice to the letter, overhauling the entrance, tilting the door 45 degrees to act as the castle gate and burying a brick in the front and back of the hotel to ward off evil. At the groundbreaking ceremony for burying the bricks, Reverend Hong Choon visited Hyatt Regency to personally give his blessings and when news of this broke out, it caused a sensation.

The procedure might look simple, but it requires a depth of understanding, especially to flawlessly co-ordinate the time and space dimensions to derive maximum benefits. Otherwise a mystery space will become a vacuum, leaving one with nothing.

Northeast MRT Line (East)

Northeast MRT Line (East) - An Important and Potent Land

The MRT Northeast (NE) Line was approved by the government after several rounds of discussions. The total construction cost was estimated at about S$5 billion. Starting from the World Trade Centre, the Line will pass through Outram Park and Chinatown to Dhoby Ghaut, where it will meet the East-West and North-South Lines. Then it will pass through Serangoon Road, Hougang New Town and Upper Serangoon Road before terminating at Punggol. The construction of this NE Line is a costly and onerous project, one that will cause a lot of upheaval as the designated route is lined with numerous residential estates, places of worship and cemeteries.

Coincidentally, when construction of this new MRT Line began, the conditions were very much similar to those of 1984 when the first MRT construction started. In 1984, when the government announced the construction of the MRT in Singapore, the world was in the throes of economic crisis. Hence, many people gossiped that construction of the MRT line had damaged a dragon vein. At the same time, the government issued a new bagua-shaped one dollar coin, an act widely rumoured to be recommended by a feng shui master in the belief that this con can control the dragon vein. Eventually, Singapore's economy picked up after many trials and tribulations. With the increasing convenience of using the MRT, ramous of the dragon vein gradually subsided and did not resurface even when the government expanded the MRT network.

No one brought up the subject of the dragon vein when the NE Line first began construction in 1997. In 1998, Southeast Asia suffered an economic crisis. The grapevine had it that the construction of the Esplanade Bridge had destroyed the Merlion's fengshui, thereby adversely affecting Singapore's fate. Before any effort to restore the Merlion's feng shui took place, Singapore's economy began to recover. I wonder how the rumour mill will explain this.

Personally, I'm rather baffled by one thing. Given Singaporeans' higher standard of education and government's strict control over the feng shui industry, we still read newspaper reports of people cheated by con men using feng shui and fortune-telling. I believe this is because feng shui and fortune-telling are generally not widely accessible to the public, so people end up developing fallacies beliefs that leave them vunerable to unscrupulous people out to pull a fast one.

Back to our topic, the NE Line stretches across all the dragon veins in Singapore including the Western Dragon's Pearl's Hill, Central Dragon's Fort Canning Hill, Southen Dragon's Mount Emily and Eastern Dragon's Serangoon and Hougang, The construction world will have a great impact on these veins.

The work on the section spanning from below Singapore River Through Fort Canning Hill to Dhoby Ghaut is considered the most complicated of the entire project. It will have the most crucial impact on Singapore's feng shui. Once the two dragon veins involved are connected, Singapore's status will be greatly enhanced. Unfortunately, a great man will die at the same as the completion of this line, who will then guard over an important den. While this might sound ridiculous, it is how the legend of the Earth God came about. He was believed to be the reincarnation of a honourable man. This belief in the Earth God exists not only in Asia but also in western societies.

The Eastern Dragon is the only land dragon that makes a U-turn, resulting in its head and tail being placed very close together. The population living on the Eastern Dragon vein is rather dense and complicated. This Eastern Dragon, being a wood dragon is auspicious for culture related careers. It is an ideal area for people working in culture and education to live in. Residents are highly educated, hanker for a high standard of living and love to be different. Their do-as-I-please attitudes can be easily discerned from the bold and fanciful, yet themeless designs adopted in many homes here. However, having too many different ideas will result in unnecessary conflicts. This scenario is similar to a piece of land that becomes useless after it is overgrown with wild plants due to poor management.

In conclusion, the completion of the NE Line will definitely benefit residents in that part of Singapore. In future, if the northern line is extended to line up Pasir Ris, Punggol and Yishun, Singapore's transport system will be even better. Of course, changes in the public transport network will, unavoidably, affect the potency of the land. Some places will prosper while others will quiet down. It is pointless to lose sleep over this matter. This is similar to suffering unavoidable pain after a surgery, which will dissipate as we heal.

Serangoon Road, an old road, will definitely become vibrant and prosperous once new life is breathed into it. Residents can rest assured that the feng shui of this area will not be affected by the demolition of some of the buildings.
